How the pros discover new artists and music. Preceded by a conversation with with Extreme Music CEO Russell Emanuel and MTV's Nic Harcourt. Known as the “bad boys of the industry,” Extreme has been breaking boundaries in the production world since its launch in 1997. Their catalogue includes such A-listers as Quincy Jones, Hans Zimmer, Snoop Dogg, Timbaland, Rodney Jerkins and Xzibit, who partnered with Extreme in creating the first music videos ever filmed for production music tracks (and later got picked up on MTV). In addition to groundbreaking work with top-tier talent, they’ve also recently developed Hype Music, a partnership with MTV that develops unsigned talent to create tracks that get first look consideration for placement on MTV’s programs and exposure to Extreme’s music supervisor library. Tracks from artists signed to Hype also get digital distribution to consumers via MTV, and artists get a 50/50 split, all without limiting them from continuing to look for label deals.
